Almost ready to revise, and resurrecting Violet
Tomorrow, marking one month from the end of the first draft, I’m going to officially start the revision for PoB. I’d like to get it done in one month so I’ll have a pretty, polished version ready to give to my loyal pals on Xmas, but only time will tell.
As a diversion, I’m also going to keep plotting and kicking ideas around for Project PC. Currently I’m fleshing out Violet, my protagonist, who is actually a completely new take on who used to be the main character for Project Infinity. I was unsure about giving her a quirky appearance like in her old designs, because in time I’ve learnt to think of the characters’ appearance as the least important thing about them unless it contributes to the plot – but this time I had finally a reason for Violet to be a mulatto with green eyes beyond the “it’s cool” factor. This appearance makes her somebody that stands out and is going to be difficult to hide, especially in a modern setting where one can be seen on television, seen on surveillance cameras, seen on the internet and so on. Which is awful for her, of course, but good for me. Muh-ahahah!
Writing is probably the only job where it’s a good sign when you get maniacal laughter.
Also, I’ve decided that Violet and her (adoptive) family had to move a lot during her life, especially during her childhood, and as such, Violet speaks several european languages, though she’s likely fluent in just a couple of them. This is not only supercool, but I have strong reasons for the whole “moving around a lot” thing (evil reasons, also), and yesterday I was amazed at how it all fit with her personality (gets along with everybody, but has no actual friends or bonds besides her adoptive family) and the themes I wanted for her. I’m already eager to start playing with her.
